Tally was first introduced to painting in a high school art class that covered things like drawing,
painting, ceramics and macrame. While she enjoyed all of it, she was especially drawn to
painting. She loved the mixing of colors and trying to make things on a flat surface appear two
dimensional. From then she began to love and appreciate the true talent of artists she would
encounter.
In her early twenties she would take classes from passing artists that would come through
town. She wanted to continue painting but having small children made it difficult, so she put
her paints and brushes away for a time.
In 2022 while recovering from a rotator cuff surgery she had a thought. She had more down
time than she knew what to do with and didn’t have to return to work for 6 months so what if
she tried painting again? She purchased some supplies and after 38 years, once again, put
paint on a brush and put it to the canvas. It was so therapeutic! And there it began. She retired
from the Kittitas post office in September 2024 and began painting on a more regular basis.
Tally is primarily self-taught and gleans what she can from other artists. She enjoys working
with a variety of mediums. She loves the ocean, mountains, the skies and appreciates living in
the beautiful PNW which offers the best views of nature. She truly appreciates the detail in the
petals of the flowers, the beauty in sunrises and sunsets, the gentleness of the ocean waves
and the power of the large wakes, the strength of the trees, all the colors and textures that
nature has to offer.
Tally lives in Kittitas with her husband Kevin. They have 7 children and 17 grandchildren which
live in 5 different states. When she is not home painting she enjoys traveling to visit her kids
and grandchildren.
