Learn the basics of oil painting by building a foundation of painting techniques and materials in this introductory class. Intended for beginners, we will work from observation to paint a black and white still life. You do not need to know how to draw to take this class.

Ages 14 and up welcome.

Please register at least 72 hours in advance. Classes may be canceled if enrollment minimums are not met. Cost is per student.

Material List (You will be required to purchase your own supplies and bring them to class)

If you already have supplies, please feel free to bring and use them. Most of these materials are available at Jerrol’s in Ellensburg or onlineBrushes:

  • 2” flat (you can go cheap on this one)
  • 16 Round
  • 10 or 12 Round
  • 4 or 6 Round

Sketchbook (Any size/brand you prefer)

Drawing Pencil (Either Graphite or a neutral Prismacolor Pencil)

Pen for notes
Eraser (Art Gum Eraser, White Magic Eraser, etc.)

Favorite Fruit OR Vegetable

Stretched Canvas: 11”x14” or 14”x14”
Oil Paint Palette

Palette Knife
Soft rags (old T-Shirts cut into pieces workgreat)
Two or Three Glass Jars with Lids (feel free to recycle old condiment jars)

ODORLESS Paint Thinner (can be found at ACE Hardware or Fred Meyer)

Oil Paint – Graham HIGHLY Recommended
