Alexandra’s artwork is based on ordinary but spectacular moments in nature: flowers bursting into bloom, insects at work in a garden, landscapes dazzled by afternoon light. These ephemeral scenes will never appear exactly the same way again. Their response is to give them a sense of permanence through drawings and paintings.
Alexandra received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in oil painting in 2003 but after graduating they stopped making art immediately and almost completely for nearly two decades. They returned to it when the world came to a standstill. The subtle yet rich hues of Central Washington—where Alexandra now lives—became their inspiration. For them, painting is a form of meditation. It is a quiet place where they go to both spend time with themselves and lose themselves. There is a strong foundation of realism in their work but there is also an undercurrent of fantasy. These are the places Alexandra visits in their dreams.
