Confluence: Women Painters of WA
Juried by Susan Steinhaus Kimmel
Confluence, from the Women Painters of Washington (WPW), includes the work of 38 of their member artists as selected by juror Susan Steinhaus Kimmel. About the exhibit, the WPW states:
“Confluence: the place where two rivers, or streams, or other tributaries, meet to form a larger river. It could also be the coming together of various ideas, styles, mediums, images, locations, subjects, or contents. The idea of diverse elements coming together to create a cohesive and powerful whole is quite reflective. It’s interesting how the concept of confluence can be applied not only to geographical features like rivers but also to the merging of ideas, styles, and mediums in the realm of art. The exhibition seems like a wonderful opportunity to be part of this creative confluence.”

Natural Abstraction
Robin & Scott Mayberry
Natrual Abstraction highlights the work of two Ellensburg artists, Robin and Scott Mayberry. Robin aims for her work to offer “a feeling of liberation born from connection” and to express itself “outward with an open hand.” It is evocative, suggesting that her art is meant to be both personal and universal, engaging viewers on an emotional level. Scott’s work, much of which was created in the wake of his mother’s death, is also deeply personal and poignant, using imagery—lighthouses, sinking boats, drowned cities—to vividly portray themes of transition and transformation. Scott emphasizes that “the images in this collection shift from the loneliness of single structures at the edge of the world, into symbols of transmutation. As a whole these pieces remind the viewer that holding on means whittling away the ground beneath us, while surrendering to change allows for lush rebirth.”

Recovery
Wayne Nickum
Recovery showcases the work of military veteran Wayne Nickum. “These images reflect my journey through the ups and downs of addiction and recovery,” Wayne states. “They are milestones of success and failure. Don’t look for perfection in my work. No such thing. Or, maybe the blemishes are part of my personality.”
Proceeds from the sale of Wayne’s work will be donated to the Wounded Warrior Project.
