Landscapes from the East and West: A Retrospective

The landscape paintings in this exhibit span over four decades. In the earlier years they were painted on location as a kind of sideline to the primary focus of Cynthia Krieble’s work. Since the mid-1980’s landmarks in her life, such as a granite-faced mountain in Northeastern Vermont, the sagebrush steppe of Central Washington , or a Taoist sacred mountain in China, have become her main inspiration. They offer her an endless range of possibilities for visual exploration. Whether painting in the studio or out in the field, her desire is to capture and preserve the beauty of these places.

Cynthia Krieble received her BFA in painting from the San Francisco Art Institute and her MFA in painting from Stanford University. She has been represented for numerous years by Linda Hodges Gallery in Seattle. She is a Professor Emeritus at Central Washington University where she taught both drawing and painting. Her work can be seen locally in the entryway of Central Washington University’s James E. Brooks Library and the Kittitas Secondary School entrance and main office. She also has work in Seattle at SightLife International Headquarters on 6th and Seneca.
