Lindsay Breidenthal
Lindsay Breidenthal’s work could be described as surrealistic landscape portraits. Her work explores the vibrancy that happens in places of transition. A closer examination of what defines categories like wild and tame, control and chaos leads to an uncertainty that fuels her curiosity. In her opinion, some of the best places to witness adaptation and survival are on the margins of town, in vacant lots, and within our own unease. These gray areas provide the context to question how territories and behavior are constantly shifting. Lindsay chooses to work these ideas out in art through the medium of paint because she believes visual language is capable of reaching past categories and delineations and blending horror with beauty to approach the sublime. In her work seductive, golden hues envelop each scene, which often include an approaching, ominous presence.
