The Multifaceted World of Julie Prather: A Retrospective

When looking at Julie Prather’s work you can see she has always been drawn to things that have many facets or 3 dimensions. Her three passions other than family, have been dance, photography, and glass. All three are tied to her early childhood but her interest became more intense as an adult. In her early 20s she began to focus on photography and her development in glass came in her early 30s. Child rearing slowed the process for about 9 years, but these interests have been with her throughout her life.

Julie has always felt the common denominator for all her work to be “light”. Light is very important in her photographic work. She is drawn to the way light affects a subject. It can make or break a picture. Equally important is the consideration of light when working with glass.

In this retrospective you will find work as early as 1965 (Danielle) in a child’s photograph. Most of the work in this show was created between 1970 and the present.
