The Science and Art of a River
An Exhibition held in conjunction with CWU’s Museum of Culture and Environment
Claire Edna Hurrey, Jim Lamb, Charles McGehee, Tom Pickerel, Dianna Shyne, Ken Strange, Lydia Strange
This exhibition began as a conversation between Bill Wood, Assistant Professor of Anthropology and Museum Studies and Interim Director of the Museum of Culture and Environment at Central Washington University and Renee Adams, Arts Programmer at Gallery One Visual Arts Center. It evolved into a conversation about the University versus downtown Ellensburg, science versus art, and ultimately the Columbia River, the subject of River of Memory, the inaugural exhibition at the CWU Museum of Culture and Environment. What emerged from these conversations may be the first of its kind, joint exhibition in Ellensburg depicting collaborations between artists and scientists with a museum style presentation. The purpose of this exhibition is to share a glimpse into the approach that both artists and scientists take in observing, recording, and communicating about a subject (in this case the Columbia River).
