This August Gallery One highlights local artists with our annual juried exhibition. Chosen artwork ranges from the exquisite to the eclectic. All work is made by Kittitas County artists within the last two years and has not previously been exhibited at Gallery One. Multiple awards totaling over $1,000 will be presented during the First Friday opening reception. This year's Jurors are Carol Hassen and Alfredo Arreguin.
In addition to being the former Director of the Larson Gallery Director at Yakima Valley Community College (for 17 years), Carol Hassen is also a painter, writer, and educator. In 2001, she received the prestigious Governor’s Arts Award for the State of Washington. Her BFA is from Oregon State University and her MFA is from Central WA University. She is involved in the arts on all levels, has received many artistic and professional awards, and has published educational materials and books.
Arreguin is a Mexican artist currently residing in Seattle, where he earned his B.A. and M.F.A. degrees from the University of Washington. His paintings represent a detailed and articulated vision of the natural and imaginary world. He has had wide acclaim for his work, including a Humanitarian Award by the Washington State Legislature, a Governor’s Arts Award from the State of Washington, and a National Endowment for the Arts Visual Artists Fellowship Grant. In addition to designing the poster for the Centennial Celebration for the State of Washington and the White House Easter Egg in 1988, Arreguin has received the OHTLI Award for his commitment to promoting Mexican culture abroad, one of the Mexican govornment’s most distinguished awards.
Residents of Kittitas County working in all mediums are encouraged to enter.
