Opening introductions: July 6, 5:45 pm Don Haggerty is an artist with two first loves - brushwork and figurative painting. He expresses these through oil painting on canvas in subtleties of gesture, variations of expression, drapery, light, shadow and mood. Influenced by artists Monet, Wyeth and Sargent and writers Charles Hawthorne, Robert Henri, and Julia Cameron, Haggerty’s work has developed a unique look. “It was through the works of such artists,” he says, “that I gained permission to paint freely in my own style.” Haggerty was born in Seattle, but grew up in Taiwan where he acknowledges having gained from Chinese artists his deep appreciation for the beauty and power of a finely executed brush stroke.
