Gallery One welcomes northwest artist Suzanne Lamon to the gallery this month. Her passion for painting and nature can be seen in her colorful large scale works on canvas. When speaking about oil painting she recounts her first experiences in art. “I loved the gooshy oil paint with its smells and strong colors O0-LA-LA!!!” Later, when she was 18 and had begun more formal training, her instructors would tell her," draw from your life and your experiences - paint what you know." Lamon took their recommendation to heart. Her current body of works represents a sliver of her life living near the ocean as well as her personal experiences with battling cancer. Lamon says of these works, “I hope I have told these stories of mine in such a way that they can be stories of yours as well.”
Lamon has an MFA from Washington State University. She moved to Washington from Idaho, where she was a guest painting instructor at the University of Idaho. She has been teaching painting for 20 years and her work is featured in corporate and private collections across the United States. She currently teaches at the Creativity Center on Bainbridge Island.
