This May Gallery One features the Master of Fine Arts thesis exhibition for Central Washington University’s painting graduate student, Tom Semple. Synthesis is defined by the dictionary as: A new unified whole resulting from the combination of different ideas, influences, or objects. (Encarta World English Dictionary) Semple’s broad range of visual vocabulary does well to tackle this notion. Informed by the Jungian process of individuation - the integration of the unconscious elements with the conscious - this exhibition features paintings, videos, digital images, audience collaboration, performance and performance documentation that deal with themes of the self within the larger community.
Tom Semple received his BFA from the University of Montana in 2003. Originally from Seattle, Semple moved to Ellensburg from Montana to attend graduate school at CWU. Active at the University and within the Ellensburg art community, Semple has been known for his collaborative art projects during Paint Ellensburg.
