Renee Adams & Justin Gibbens
Aerosmith sings about it. Paris Hilton thinks it’s ‘hot’. If Miami Vice were still on, certainly Don Johnson would be wearing it under his white sport coat.

When it comes to colors, one simply cannot be indifferent about pink. It is like black licorice or pickled herring; you either love it or you loathe it. But unlike favorite foods, colors seem to have a rather short shelf life. By the looks of it, pink seems to be pretty hot right now. And as far as we can tell, it’s still the new black.

Pink has always been associated with all that is frilly, delicate and feminine. However, pink is no longer just for girls. In a day of blatant and copious sexuality and reality TV openness, we find a crossover occurring as the new metro male has recently claimed the color as his own. Pink used to be innocent. It reminded us of flowers, candy and little girls. But it now has a provocative and dangerous new face. It is the color of flesh and genitals and wild pigs. Pink is in limbo. Pink is tricky. It is a chameleon, a shape-shifter and a cross-dresser. And pink gets around. We can’t seem to put our finger on it, but alas we have tried, which has been the aim of this exhibition.

Pink celebrates that which we love and that which we deplore about this curious color.

We thank Gallery One for hosting this exhibit and everyone who has participated in making this show possible.
