Louis Kollmeyer - Retrospective

Opening Reception: June 2, 5-7 pm
Opening Sponsor: David Cross and Roger Glaser, Downtown Pharmacy
Opening Introductions: 5:45 pm
Exhibition Dates: June 2 – July 1

In June, Gallery One Visual Arts Center is honored to present a retrospective exhibition by Central Washington University’s Professor of Art, Emeritus, Louis Kollmeyer. The retrospective contains work created over several decades and includes a variety of watercolor paintings, which illustrate a range of subject matter, from landscapes and seascapes to still-life and travel studies. Upstairs in the Eveleth Green Gallery, resident artist Sam Mirkovich presents “Littenburg,” a collection of paintings inspired by Ellensburg at night. An opening reception for both shows takes place at Gallery One on Friday, June 2 from 5 to 7 p.m., with artist introductions beginning at 5:45 p.m.

Louis Kollmeyer began his artistic journey as a student at Southwest Missouri State College, then later at the State University of Iowa and the University of Oregon. Throughout his education he had the good fortune to have studied with outstanding teachers, such as artists Grant Wood and Alexander Archipenko. Over the years, Louis has traveled to several countries in Europe, concentrating on their culture and arts, which breathe evidence into his own paintings.

Louis has experienced a successful career as an art educator and administrator, culminating with twenty five years as Professor of Art at Central Washington University. During retirement he has remained active as a professional artist. His paintings have received numerous awards and honors, as well as been exhibited nationally and internationally. His book, “An Artist’s Journey, Mainly in Watercolor,” was published in 1999 and autographed copies are available for purchase at Gallery One.

In the Eveleth Green Gallery, Sam Mirkovich’s exhibition, “Littenburg,” is his creative response to living in Ellensburg and illustrates the town’s evening charm. His recent paintings focus on architecture and landmarks, including Ellensburg’s Liberty Theatre and Davidson building. Visually, his painterly style is reminiscent of Vincent Van Gogh with the rich colors and heavy use of line and movement. “Littenburg” provides viewers a unique observation of our beautiful town.

Gallery One Resident Artist studios will also be open for viewing during the First Friday Art Walk. For more information about Gallery One’s June exhibitions, please contact the gallery at 408 N. Pearl, 509.925.2670.
